James S. Wolfe
James Steven Wolfe was born on October 27, 1977 to Steven and Linda (Culver) Wolfe in Greenfield, Iowa. He graduated from Greenfield High School with the Class of 1996. An all-around high school athlete, James still holds the records in long jump and the 4 x 100 in track. Perhaps he was so fleet of foot because he wrote Isaiah 40:31 on his running shoes. In 2004, he earned a degree in Computer and Electronics Engineering Technology at ITT Technical Institute. James married Phylisha Eshelman on July 10, 2005 in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with a daughter, Phyra.
Through the years, he derived much satisfaction in designing speaker sound systems for vehicles and homes, creating a bass sound that could be heard and felt with good vibrations. As a problem solver, he would tackle anything involving mechanics, woodworking, electrical, heating, or plumbing. He was a talented writer and artist. He also enjoyed relaxing in nature by rollerblading, picnicking, hiking, and traveling to several places. One of the most memorable ones was to the Grand Canyon where James and Phylisha did a ten-mile hiking expedition into the incredible Havasu Falls.
He was a FedEx employee for fifteen years. He earned a diploma in Advanced Smith System Driver Education. At the end of his FedEx career, he advanced to driver instructor. His students’ successes were felt as his own. He was a member of the Minden United Church of Christ, serving on the church board for a period of time.
James’ legacy, however, lies in his personality. He displayed gratitude, generosity and acceptance despite adversity in health with pancreatic cancer. His sense of humor brightened many a day. He possessed a keen sense of spiritual wisdom beyond his years. His greatest loves were faith and family, particularly his “favorite girls”, Phylisha and Phyra. As a husband and father, James was content just making his girls “smile”.
James passed on Sunday, July 3, 2016 surrounded by loving family at his home in Minden, Iowa, having attained the age of thirty-eight years, eight months, and six days. He was preceded in death by his grandparents: LeRoy and Lorene Wolfe, Phylisha’s grandparents Harley and Donna Wallace, Albert Eshelman, and Dale Fritz.
He is survived by his wife of eleven years, Phylisha Wolfe of Minden, Iowa; daughter Phyra Wolfe of Minden; parents Steven and Linda Wolfe of Greenfield, Iowa; sister Stacy Wolfe of Omaha, Nebraska; grandparents Don and Wilma Culver of Greenfield; Phylisha’s parents Phyllis and Craig Eshelman of Bridgewater, Iowa; sister-in-law Connie Eshelman and her fiancé Nick of West Des Moines, Iowa; brother-in-law Clinton Eshelman and his wife Kelli of Clive, Iowa; Phylisha’s grandmothers Dorothy Fritz and her friend Sam of West Des Moines and Itha Eshelman of Fontanelle, Iowa; as well as a host of many relatives and friends.
In Lieu of flowers the family of James will be setting up a Go Fund Me page to help cover expenses following James's passing.
