Janice Ann Illingworth
March 31, 1944 — August 10, 2019
Janice Ann (Volk) Illingworth was born March 31, 1944, to John Volk Sr. and Goldie (Ludwig) Volk in Algona, Iowa. She spent her youth residing in foster homes. Janice attended school until the eighth grade and then moved in with her sister, Dolores, and her brother-in-law to begin caring for her nieces and nephews. In 1972, Janice became a mother, giving birth to her daughter, Amy.
Janice was known to put others before herself. She enjoyed long talks with people and would spend hours in conversation with them. A favorite hobby was shopping. She was known to combine her gift of gab and her love of shopping by chatting with fellow shoppers for long periods of time. She was a homemaker and also worked as a housekeeper throughout her life. Janice was crafty, often making artificial flowers; with artificial roses being her specialty.
A petite woman, Janice was never one to let her size deter her from anything. She was known to track people down, or as her family likes to say, “chase them down,” sometimes, as Kenny recalls, with a skillet in hand to get her point across.
In the early morning of August 10, 2019, at the age of seventy-five, Janice passed away peacefully at Immanuel Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents, John, and Goldie Volk; her sisters Delores (Volk) Menke and Charlotte (Volk) Doocy; her brother, John Volk III; and her great-nephew, Phillip Morgan. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Amy (Illingworth) Rose and her boyfriend, Kenny Niedert, both of Denison, Iowa; her brother, Charles Volk, of Port Byron, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Private memorial services with family and friends will be held at a later date. The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to them in care of Pauley Jones Pfannebecker Funeral Home at 1425 Broadway, PO Box 370, Denison, Iowa 51442.
