Janice Rae was born on July 27, 1945 to Clarence and Leta (Schuning) Wendt in Avoca, Iowa. Janice was baptized, confirmed and was a member of First Lutheran/Trinity Lutheran Church in Avoca, IA. She attended AvoHa School and was a proud Blue Bird, reigning homecoming queen in her senior year of high school and graduated with the class of 1963.
Janice married Byron Martin on April 1, 1968 in Omaha, Nebraska. They were blessed with one son - Greg.
Janice spent some of her working years as an EKG Technician at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa and various part time jobs in Avoca. In her free time she enjoyed reading books, taking various trips and playing cards with her sisters, traveling to Colorado, watching the Hawkeyes play basketball and attending and cheering on her grandchildren in their various sporting events.
Janice died on Wednesday July 29, 2015 at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa having attained the age of seventy years and two days. She was preceded in death by her husband Byron Martin, parents Clarence and Leta Wendt, siblings - Eugene Wendt, Inez Simpson, Robert Wendt, Margery Wilds, and Clarence Wendt Jr.,
Janice is survived by her son Greg and his wife Christie of Shelby, IA; granddaughter Nikki Martin and her husband John Schultz of Omaha, NE; granddaughter Kylie Martin and grandson Jacob Martin of Shelby, IA; siblings - Willis Wendt of California; Lois and her husband Dennis Jacobsen of Hancock, IA; Marlene Peterson of Colorado; Beverly and her husband Walt Knudtson of Walnut, IA; mother-in-law Hazel Martin of Avoca, IA; and brother-in-law Bruce and his wife Jeanne Martin of Hancock, IA; other relatives and friends.
