Janice Waltz

Janice Laurena (Pauley) Waltz was born September 23, 1939 in Harlan, Iowa to Leo and Louise (Schmitz) Pauley. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s of the Assumption in Panama, Iowa. Janice also attended school at St. Mary’s in Panama, graduating in 1957. She has been a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth since 1959. Janice married Gerald L. Waltz May 9, 1959 at St. Mary’s in Panama, and to this union, four children were born: Paul, Colleen, Cheryl, and Tim.
Janice lived her life for her family. She was fondly referred to as Grandma Grape by her great grandchildren. She was a consummate house cleaner and she ironed everything, including socks and underwear. Janice always told you what she thought and was known by her colorful language. God himself might hesitate to argue with her. Janice was a member of Catholic Daughters St. Maria Goretti #2498, and also belonged to Legion Auxiliary Post #547.
Janice passed away Friday, October 13, 2017, attaining the age of 78 years and 20 days. In addition to her parents, Janice is preceded in death by her spouse, Gerald L. Waltz; and her siblings Lucille Wendt, Bernadine Hayes, Walter Pauley, Thelma Pauley, and Jerry Pauley.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Paul (Karen) Waltz of Johnston, IA; Colleen (Dean) Kloewer of Panama, IA; Cheryl (Pete) Mott of Omaha, NE; Tim (Carol Webb) Waltz of Spirit Lake, IA; 17 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; siblings Alfred (Dolores) Pauley of Panama, IA; Mary Ella “Mitz” (Gary) Wilke of Portsmouth, IA; Kenny (Eileen) Pauley of Panama, IA; many nieces, nephews, and friends.
