Janice Leanne Weihs

Janice Leanne Weihs, daughter of Richard and Opal (Daughtery) Brown, was born November 19, 1936 in Fraser, Iowa. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School in Boone, Iowa then graduated from Boone High School. She received her LPN at College of Mercy Nursing School in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
On February 15, 1958, Janice was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Weihs, Jr. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth, Iowa. Five sons were born to this union: Jeffrey, James, Gregory, Thomas, and William. Jan helped Larry on the farm and cared for the house and the boys while they were growing up. She also worked at many hospitals and nursing homes and later became a regional sales representative for World Book Encyclopedias.
Jan loved tending to her gardens, flower beds and mowing the lawn. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting. Her favorite times were when the family would get together for birthdays and holidays and being with her grandchildren. She was a loving wife, mother and grandma.
Jan died on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-three years and twenty-six days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Larry Weihs, son Greg Weihs, siblings Richard Brown, Jr., Rose O’Neill, June Finch, Norma Wheelock, and Dennis Brown.
She is survived by her sons Jeff (Leesia) Weihs of Crescent, Iowa; Jim Weihs of Portsmouth, Iowa; Tom (Mary Jo) Weihs of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Bill (Teresa) Weihs of Sartell, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
