Jean Lou Christensen was born at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll, Iowa, along with her twin sister, on August 2, 1943. Daughters of Henry Claus and Florence Mabel (Schroeder) Thomssen.
She was baptized on October 24, 1943, and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa on May 28, 1961.
Jean was raised on country farms. She received her education at a country school through the 8th grade. She graduated from Manning High School with the class of 1961. After graduation, she went to work for Mutual of Omaha.
On June 24, 1962, Jean was united in marriage to James DeVere Christensen at Trinity Lutheran Church in Manilla, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four children; Joleen, Jeffrey, Janelle, and Julie. They made their home in Omaha, Nebraska before moving to Denison, Iowa in 1965.
Jean began working for the State of Iowa, Crawford Soil and Water Conservation District in 1974 until her retirement on June 30, 2009.
Her hobbies included traveling, especially with her brother and twin sister, camping, and antique shopping. She took pride in collecting various coins through the years and compiling books for her ten grandchildren that showcased events throughout their lives. In later years, she enjoyed her many outings with family.
Jean passed away peacefully at the Denison Care Center surrounded by her family on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, attaining the age of 79 years, 5 months, and 23 days.
She was preceded in death by her husband James Christensen, parents Henry and Florence Thomssen, brother Larry Thomssen and sister Darlyne Dahleen.
Left to cherish her memory are her children Joleen (Dean) Lafrentz of Sergeant Bluff, IA; Jeff (Lisa) Christensen of Newell, IA; Janelle Christensen of Denison, IA; Julie (David) Weller of Manning, IA; grandchildren Jeremy, April, Alisa, Joey, Dereck, Andrea, Justin, Abby, Haylee, and Jordan; 14 great grandchildren; twin sister Judy Lingle; sisters - in - law Corine and Dalene; and many other family and friends.
