Jeanette Clayton

Jeanette Clayton, daughter of Axel and Elsie Lucille (Green) Juhl, was born October 4, 1936 in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Harlan Lutheran Church. She attended grade school in Tennant, Iowa and graduated from Harlan High School. She went on to attend college at Commercial Extension Business School in Omaha, Nebraska.
Jeanette started work at Myrtue Memorial Hospital then worked at a hospital in Olympia, Washington. She later went to work at Walnut State Bank in Walnut, Iowa.
On October 12, 1957, Jeanette was united in marriage to Eugene Clayton at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. Jeanette helped Eugene on the farm where they raised their four children: Janine, Janelle, Julie and John. Jeanette enjoyed sewing clothes for her children; cooking for her family, one of her specialties was Swedish pastries, and flower arranging for her home. She also enjoyed spending time with friends, the neighborhood card club, couples pinocle card club, and “potluck bunch”. Together, Jeanette and Eugene loved dancing together and attending their grandchildren’s activities. She was a member of Peace United Church in Walnut, Iowa.
Jeanette died on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, attaining the age of eighty-one years, four months and twenty-one days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Juhl, brothers-in-law Larry Clayton, Darrell Clayton, Dale Clayton, sister-in-law Nancy Clayton.
She is survived by her husband of sixty years Eugene Clayton of Walnut, Iowa; children Janine and her husband Bob Berndt of Avoca, Iowa; Janelle and her husband Dwayne Bornholdt of Atlantic, Iowa; Julie and her husband Kurt Schwarck of Spencer, Iowa; John Clayton and his wife Michelle of Walnut, Iowa; grandchildren Becky Finck; Jana and Tom Fowler; Scott Berndt and Christy Rauch; Sara and Matt Bax; Dennis Bornholdt; Lauren Schwarck; Emma Schwarck; Kyle and Jill Clayton; Garrett and Jenna Clayton; Connor Clayton; great grandchildren Harper and Ryden Finck; Elsie, Abbott and Llewyn Fowler; Braden Hargens and Cael Berndt; Emily and Joshua Bax; Evelyn and Allison Clayton; sisters-in-law Monna Juhl of Shelby, Iowa; Sadie Clayton of Albany, New York; Debbie Clayton of Walnut; Wanda and her husband Roger Pickenbaugh of Omaha, Nebraska; Cindy and her husband Bernie Nielsen of Trinity, Florida; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
A 10:00 AM Funeral Service was officiated by Pastor Steve Lewis on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Becky Finck, Sara Bax, Jill Clayton, Christy Rauch, Emma Schwarck, Jana Fowler, Lauren Schwarck, and Jenna Clayton served as honorary casket bearers. Tom Fowler, Scott Berndt, Matt Bax, Dennis Bornholdt, Kyle Clayton, Garrett Clayton, and Connor Clayton served as casket bearers. Interment was held at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
Pauley Jones Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
