January 13, 1929 ~ December 15, 2017
Jeanette (Shun) was the second of thirteen children born to Aloysius and Eva (Peerman) Kloewer. She was born on January 13, 1929 in Earling, and baptized at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earling. She moved to Defiance at an early age and attended twelve years of school at St. Paul Catholic School graduating with the class of 1947. After graduation, she spent a summer working at Lake Okoboji, she also worked at Russell Stover in Denver, CO, and Mutual of Omaha. Throughout this time, she courted her childhood sweetheart, Robert (Bob) Dotzler.
On October 2, 1950 she married Bob at St. Peter Catholic Church. After their marriage, they lived in Harlan for a few years, then farmed for 16 years east of Defiance. Four children were born of this union; Janie, Nancy, Mike and Debbie. They moved to Storm Lake in 1971 for Bob's job with the FmHA, then on to Ankeny where Bob worked in the State Office. Bob and Shun retired in December of 1990 and moved back to their beloved hometown of Defiance. She had much input into the design of the home Bob built for them. The construction and completion was a fun family effort, with Shun keeping the busy crew fed.
During her lifetime, she was actively involved in many church and volunteer activities such as Quilt Club, Girl Scouts, Red Cross blood drives, and visiting nursing homes. She also enjoyed surrounding herself with family and friends. She always had time for coffee and a chat, and enjoyed spoiling her family and loved ones with her famous baked goods. Shun was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family. She attended many school activities and athletic events, she was always a steady and prayerful presence in their lives.
Shun was a true historian, she captured so many special moments in pictures and had a treasured collection of photo albums. At the suggestion of her mother-in-law, she diligently kept a daily diary for 36 years. She documented her family's daily activities, the weather, as well as local community happenings.
Shun was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Bob and siblings Lucille Richards, Don Kloewer, Lorene Assmann, Mary Ann Meyer, and John Kloewer. They will have a joyful reunion in heaven this Christmas season.
