Jeanette Kay Kroger

Jeanette Kay (Cavanaugh) Kroger, the daughter of Pearl (Markley) and Howard Cavanaugh, was born on April 16, 1939, in Audubon, Iowa. She was one of eleven children.
Jeanette married the love of her life, Louis Kroger, on July 17, 1955, at the Danish Lutheran Church in Audubon, Iowa. To this union, three children were born: Randy, Craig and Angela. After their marriage, the two made their home in Harlan, Iowa.
Jeanette was a homemaker until Louis passed away in 1992. She then spent some time working outside her home at Norgaard's Hallmark store, CDS and a local convenience store. One of the greatest joys of Jeanette's life was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Together, they would play cards and board games or share special homemade treats. She was very proud to have won the spelling bee in eighth grade and was certain that would give her a competitive edge. She would often show her love and appreciation for others through her exceptional baked goods or unique gifts. Jeanette was very talented and strived for perfection in all she created, including her sewing, crocheting, knitting, ceramics and baking. Anything that she could make homemade, she would. She took pride in always looking her best and was always sure to let people know she never even colored her hair. She also enjoyed collecting special items, such as apples and snowmen, and enjoyed caring for her plants and flowers.
Jeanette passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones, on Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, attaining the age of 84 years, 8 months, and 21 days. She was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Howard Cavanaugh; her husband, Louis Kroger; sisters, Shirley Buttry, Monie Albertsen, and Beverly Coffman; and brother, Richard "Dick" Cavanaugh.
She is survived by her children Randy (Sharon) Kroger; Craig (Dede) Kroger; Angela (Heidi) Kroger-Thies all of Harlan, IA; 8 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; siblings Howard "Sonny" Cavanaugh of Estherville, IA; Larry Cavanaugh of Ft. Madison, IA; Judie (Jim) Smith of Brentwood, CA; Charlotte Cavanaugh of El Dorado, CA; Sandra Woods of Huntsville, AL; Jackie (Jack) Smith of El Dorado, CA; sister-in-law Marilyn Anderson of Harlan, IA.
A 1:00 PM Funeral Service was officiated by Pastor Phil Nielsen on Friday, January 11, 2024 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa. Sara Dopheide, Chad Kroger, Katie Haake, Alex Voge, Ben Kroger, Jordan Voge, Drew Voge, and Jacob Voge served as pallbearers. Jack Dopheide, Collins Kroger, Everett Haake, Graham Haake and Hudson Haake served as honorary pallbearers. A burial was held following the service at Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
