Jean “Jeannie” Mary Heese was born to Christian and Eleanora (Pauley) Blum on August 18, 1944 in Rural Panama, Iowa. Jeannie was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. She attended grade school, high school and graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Panama, Iowa in 1962.
Four years after graduation, Jeannie married the love of her life, Le Roy A. Heese on November 12, 1966 at St. Mary’ Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. Le Roy and Jeannie began married life on a farm east of Irwin and became members of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. Jeannie was a member of St. Peter’s for the remainder of her life. Jeannie and Le Roy welcomed 6 children into this world: Pat, Tim, Jackie, Tom, Crystal and Sam. After many joyful and busy years on the farm, in 1992 Le Roy and Jeannie located to an acerage in Defiance, Iowa.
Jeannie worked in healthcare for most of her career, being a CNA (Certified Nurses Aid). She retired from Manilla Manor in 2016. She was also a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She enjoyed helping and willing to do any work to help Le Roy on the farm. Some of her main hobbies included gardening, canning, cooking, mowing the lawn, cross-stitch, playing her favorite video game Pac-Man, playing with her 9 grandchildren, and playing cards and dice.
Jeannie passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, September 18, 2023 at Salem Lutheran Home in Elk Horn, Iowa, attaining the age of 79 years and 1 month. She was preceded in death by her parents, Christian and Eleanora Blum; and siblings, Vernon Blum, Virginia Wingert, Mary Blum, Chris Blum, Charlie Blum, Emil Blum and Audrey Smith.
She is survived by her husband, Le Roy Heese of Defiance, IA; children, Patrick Heese of Elk Horn, Iowa, Timothy Heese of Shenandoah, IA, Jackie (Todd) Alberti of Harlan, IA, Thomas (Sheila) Heese of Hudson, IA, Crystal (Rick) Widemon of Quitman, TX, Samuel (Megan) Heese of Exira, IA; sisters, Sister Joyce Blum of Council Bluffs, IA, Alice (Jerry) Zimmerman of Minden, IA, and Judy Clark of Omaha, NE; 9 grandchildren; many other relatives and friends.
