Having taken the Normal Training during her high school years, Jennie taught in the Denison # 5 rural school from 1944 until 1950. On November 21, 1951, Jennie was united in marriage with Donald Lochmiller at the Zion Lutheran Parsonage in Denison, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two children: Grant and Martha. When time allowed, she and Donald enjoyed going on various bank club trips and attending slow pitch softball games. Donald died June 21, 2007, and Jennie continued to make her home on the farm. In her leisure time Jennie was an avid reader, having remembered the first book she ever bought and keeping a record of every title she had ever read. Some of her favorite television programs included soap operas, Dateline and 48 Hours. Keeping up with current events, she enjoyed discussions with family and friends. She faithfully attended class reunions and especially enjoyed visiting with classmates and friends she would meet during her shopping trips to Denison. Jennie spent many hours making scrapbooks of recipes and newspaper articles and pictures of family and friends. Other pleasures in Jennie’s life included listening to country music, caring for her houseplants, and especially spending time with her family. She was a member of the United Presbyterian Church in Denison. Jennie died Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at the Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center in Correctionville, Iowa, where her granddaughter, Rachel Harris lovingly helped care for her.
