Jerolyn Rae Mcmurphy

Jerolyn "Jerri" Rae McMurphy the daughter of Arnold and Barbara Rae (Barnum) Esperson was born September 11, 1950 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Gowrie, Iowa and attended grade school at the Fort Dodge Public Schools. Her family then made their home in Oakland, Iowa where Jerri went on to graduate from Oakland High School with the class of 1968. After high school, Jerri attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Jerri returned to Oakland and started working for Casey�s General Store and later for a short period at Excel also in Oakland.
On September 5, 1981, Jerri was united in marriage to Rick McMurphy in Avoca. They made their home in Avoca where together they raised her son Jeff. She then began working at the Avoca Nursing and Rehab where she was a cook. In 1986 they moved to Arizona where she worked part time at the Tastee Freez but spent most of her time being a stay at home mom. In 1992 they returned to Avoca where she later began working at the Exchange Lounge in Avoca where she worked until April of 2010 when she retired due to her health.
Jerri loved her family. She was a devoted wife, loving mother and very proud grandmother. Even when she was ill she treasured her trip to Adventureland with her granddaughter this past summer. Jerri was a very social person whose unselfish ways led her to having many, many friends. She enjoyed camping, golfing, and mountain lion hunting. She was an avid Phoenix Suns basketball fan and Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
On October 13, 2010, Jerri entered the Avoca Nursing and Rehab Center for hospice care and this is where she died on October 16, 2010 having attained the age of sixty years, one month and five days. In addition to her parents, Jerri was preceded in death by her step-dad Jack Meier, granddaughters: Michaela Leigh and Alayna Diane, brother-in-law, Michael McMurphy, and father-in-law Charlie McMurphy.
She is survived by her husband, Rick McMurphy of Avoca, Iowa; her son, Jeff Tibbles and his wife Katie of Ames, Iowa; her granddaughter Elizabeth Tibbles and soon to be granddaughter Olivia Tibbles; her sisters: Jackie and her husband Alan Grobe of Oakland, Iowa and Jan and her husband Carl Best of Salina, Kansas; her brother Allan Esperson and his wife Tara of Council Bluffs, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
Pastor Nancy Ross-Hullinger and Dale Kesterson officiated the 10:30 A.M. Memorial Service at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Avoca on Tuesday, October 19, 2010. Inurnment was in Graceland Cemetery in Avoca. Honorary pallbearers were: Denny Langer, Cheri Hoffman, Rod McMurphy, Rodger McMurphy, Mark McMurphy, Carl Best, and Al Grobe.
