Jerome H. Pauley
July 20, 1939 — December 7, 2011
Jerome Hobart Pauley was born on July 20, 1939 to Albert and Cyrilla (Bissen) Pauley in Panama, Iowa. He grew up on a farm near Tennant before the family moved to their farm outside of Earling. He attended and graduated from St. Joseph�s Catholic School in Earling where he was an all-county basketball player.
He moved to Omaha after high school and worked at the Corn State Laboratory during the day and delivered groceries at night. He returned to Shelby County and worked on local farms outside of Defiance and Denison until 1963.
On August 11, 1959, Jerome was united in marriage to Elizabeth "Betty" Weis at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church. There were seven children born to this union: Rick, Kim, Gary, Tim, Julie, Jayne, and Anne.
In 1967, Jerome started working at Farmland and retired in 2004 after thirty-seven years. He continued to farm full-time until the fall of this year.
He was a referee and officiated many ball games and announced at several tournaments. He enjoyed bowling and going to the casinos every once in a while.
Jerome died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of seventy-two years, four months, and seventeen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his grandson Nathan Parker.
He is survived by his children: Rick Pauley and his wife Peg of Earling, Iowa, Kim and her husband Jim Wessels of Marble Rock, Iowa, Gary Pauley and his wife Karen of Parker, South Dakota, Tim Pauley and his wife Sandy of LeMars, Iowa, Julie and her husband George Langenfeld of Harlan, Iowa, Jayne and her husband Bruce Parker of Smithland, Iowa, and Anne Pauley of Earling; fifteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brother Lee Pauley and his wife Linda of St. Cloud, Minnesota; sisters Gloria and her husband Marvin Royal of Orlando, Florida and Donna Fullerton of Arlington Heights, Illinois; other family members and friends.
Rev. Chris Fontanini celebrated the 11:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Joseph�s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. Honorary casket bearers were Nicole Pauley, Tara Pauley, Staci Hess, Amber Raveling, Tori Langenfeld, Cali Langenfeld, Leah Parker, Ryan Parker, Aiden Hintermeister, and Lexi Ohl. Serving as casket bearers were Mitchell Thompson, Trevor Langenfeld, Derek Pauley, Brian Lux, Ben Pauley, Tyler Pauley, and Josh Pauley. Interment was held at St. Joseph�s Cemetery in Earling.
