Jerry Howard Davis was born on August 12, 1955 to Donald and Arlene (Slining) Davis in Mason City, Iowa. He was baptized at the Methodist church in Chapin, Iowa and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church after the family moved to Harlan, Iowa. He attended grade school in Hampton, Iowa and graduated from Irwin-Kirkman Schools with the Class of 1973.
On October 9, 1980, he was united in marriage to Leah Mogg in Green River, Wyoming. They became parents to three children: Trevor, Tanner, and Kelsey.
Jerry loved to watch the NASCAR races and had even raced for a while himself. He would help anybody who needed help, and was never afraid to strike up a conversation with someone. His trips to the grocery store always took longer than expected because he had to stop and chat with everyone he knew!
He loved watching his Hawkeyes and spending time with the blessings of his life, his grandchildren: Gavin, Brody, Larkin, and Blaire, and KT who will miss her walks with him.
Jerry had several families, his blood family, his in-law family who loved him like their own, and the community who supported and loved him through this difficult time.
Jerry died at Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 at the age of sixty years, one month, and three days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arlene and Donald, father-in-law Phil Mogg, brother-in-law Bruce Markkula.
He is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Leah Davis of Harlan, Iowa; sons Trevor Davis and his wife Kendal of Omaha, Nebraska and Tanner Davis and his friend Danielle of Des Moines, Iowa; daughter Kelsey and her husband Todd Bruck of Harlan; four grandchildren: Gavin, Brody, Larkin, and Blaire; sisters Dixie and her husband Sonny Goans of Kirkman, Iowa, Barb and her husband Kim Swanson of Harlan, Sandy Markkula of Meridian, Idaho, and Debbie and her husband Jimmy Davis of Wichita, Kansas; brothers John Davis and his wife Judy of Harlan and Jeff Davis of Creston, Iowa; mother-in-law Gertrude “Gertie” Mogg of Audubon, Iowa; other family members and many friends.
