Floyd James Baer was born in Denison, Iowa, February 24, 1928, the son of Paul Richard and Ethel Malone Baer. He was raised in Denison until age 6, when after the death of his mother, he moved to Ute to live with his grandparents. After his father remarried the family made their home in Schleswig. Known as a hard worker Jim was employed by area farmers and Petersen Construction in Schleswig. In later years he made his home at the Crawford County Home where he enjoyed gardening. After the home closed Jim moved to Denison and was employed at WESCO and lived in their housing. As his health began to fail Jim moved to the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap in October of 1996 where he had since resided. Through the years Jim enjoyed bicycling. Jim died Friday evening, February 8, 2013, at the Dunlap Nursing and Rehab Center in Dunlap, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 84 years, 11 months and 14 days. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Ethel Baer, his step-mother, Anna Baer and his brother, Richard Baer Those remaining to cherish his memory include his half brother Paul Roger Baer and wife Marlene of Schleswig, Iowa; two nephews: Daniel Baer and wife Jodi of Farmington, Minnesota and Dennis Baer and wife Bridget of Bondurant, Iowa; niece Jeanine and husband Chris Martin of Casa Grande, Arizona; other relatives and friends. Private family graveside memorial services and inurnment were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, February 13, 2013, at the Dow City Cemetery, Dow City, Iowa, with the Rev. Chris Burtnett officiating. A public visitation for family and friends was held from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 12, 2013 at the Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
