JoAnn M. (Weir) Jacobsen was born May 5, 1946 in Webster, Pennsylvania to Samuel and Donna (Kvocka) Weir. She graduated from Rostraver High School in Belle Vernon, PA in 1964 before attending college at Robert Morris University in Pittsburgh and receiving a two-year degree. JoAnn married Albert Niziol in 1967 and to this union, two sons were born: Steven and David. JoAnn was a protective and strong-spirited woman, and a "Mama Bear" when it came to her kids.
JoAnn worked many jobs over the years, teachers aide, waiting tables, managing a hotel banquet hall, and as a pediatric nurses aid. She met Darrell "Jake" Jacobsen of Avoca, Iowa while he was trucking in Pennsylvania and the two began to spend time together, JoAnn joined Jake on his trips, and eventually she was trucking, too. The two got married in 1989 while in Phoenix, Arizona, and she moved to Shelby, IA.
She had fought many obstacles in her life, and battled Diabetes for the last 40 years, but found time to appreciate the small things. JoAnn enjoyed reading, and like a true Pittsburgh native, loved watching the Steelers play. She also liked watching NASCAR.
JoAnn passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018 in Logan, Iowa, attaining the age of 71 years, eight months, and 15 days. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Darrell "Jake" Jacobsen.
JoAnn is survived by her sons Steven (Christina) Niziol of Logan, IA; David Niziol of Dunlap, IA; brother Samuel (Pamela) Weir of Webster, PA; sister-in-law Dianne (Larry) Ehlers of Minden, IA; special friend Cornelius "Bud" Warren of Avoca, IA; other relatives and friends.
