Joann Kathryn Rose
August 28, 1946 — January 31, 2018
JoAnn Kathryn Rose, daughter of Donald William and Regina (Patten) Gessert, was born August 28, 1946 in Westphalia, Iowa. At the age of 3, the family moved to a farm outside of Harlan until she was 16 years old when they moved to town. She graduated from Harlan High School with the class of 1966.
On February 5, 1970, JoAnn was united in marriage to Lonnie L. Rose in Papillion, Nebraska. Four children were born from this union: David, Theresa, Jesse and William. Lonnie and JoAnn moved to Carson, Iowa; where she worked in the auto license department at Pottawattamie County Courthouse in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1979, they moved back to Harlan, JoAnn worked at Myrtue Memorial Hospital, first in housekeeping then as a purchasing manager until retiring on her 59th birthday, August 28, 2005.
JoAnn was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed bowling with friends and attending her grandchildren’s activities. Most of all she loved time spent with her family.
JoAnn died surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at Myrtue Medical Clinic, attaining the age of seventy-one years, five months and three days. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Ralph Gessert and sister Rozann Lauritsen.
She has left to cherish her memory her husband of forty-seven years Lonnie Rose of Harlan, Iowa; children David Rose and his wife Lori of Temecula, California; Theresa and her husband Scott Andersen of Harlan; Jesse Rose and his wife Heather of Council Bluffs, Iowa; William Rose and his wife Gina of Oakland, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; siblings Donald Gessert and his wife Susan of Elk Horn, Iowa; Darold Gessert of Harlan; Wayne Gessert of Council Bluffs; Dale Gessert and his wife Georgia of Heartland, Wisconsin; Diane Derby of Harlan; Kathy and her husband John Kelly of Harlan; Marcia and her husband Tom Albertson of Harlan; Randall Gessert of Harlan; Darwin Gessert and his wife Mary of Harlan; Beverly and her husband Gary Heilig of Minden, Iowa; Dean Gessert and his wife Deb of Harlan; Donna Gessert and her friend Jeff Mayne of Harlan; sister-in-law Mickie Gessert of Harlan; many nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
