Jody Melissa Pullen, daughter of Leonard and Loreann (Heller) Akers,
was born April 14, 1957 in Denison, Iowa. Jody attended school in
Manilla, Iowa.
On August 17, 1974 Jody was united in marriage to Norman Pullen in
Charter Oak, Iowa. To this union were born four sons: Christopher, Jarad,
Cody, and Jesse. Jody and Norman enjoyed 37 years of marriage before
Norman’s passing in 2011.
Jody loved her four boys deeply and devoted herself to being a
homemaker. Jody also worked at Service Master and did some cleaning
jobs on the side.
She had five grandchildren and one great-grandchild, whom she helped
raise, and loved dearly. Jody also loved gambling and gossiping. She could
rarely be found without her Mt. Dew and ChapStick. Jody was an avid fan
of the Cincinnati Bengals, NASCAR, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
In her final days, Jody was surrounded by many caring staff from St.
Criox Hospice and Good Samaritan Society. Jody’s family is very thankful
for them. Jody never liked to be left behind by anyone, and will be happy
to be reunited in heaven with her best friend, Diane Ransom.
Jody passed away surrounded by her family at Good Samaritan Society
on Monday, March 27, 2023 attaining the age of 65 years, 11 months, and
13 days.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Leonard and Loreann Akers,
husband, Norman, great-granddaughter HuxLee Anna Lynn Hollinger,
brothers, Thomas and Earl, and sister Ruth.
Left to cherish her memory are her sons Chris (Jennifer) Pullen of
Denison, IA; Jarad (Jill) Pullen of Battle Creek, IA; Cody Pullen (Savannah
Church) of Holstein, IA; and Jesse (Melanie) Pullen of Holstein, IA; 5
grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild; siblings Kathryn (Devlyn) Cooper of
Denison, IA; Linda Stehr of Remsen, IA; Clinton (Robin) Akers of Eagle
Grove, IA; and Midge (Dean) Carstensen of Denison, IA.
