John William Ballantine, son of David and Lois (Richards) Ballantine was born December 18, 1936, in Dow City, Iowa. He attended Dow City-Arion high school where he graduated with the class of 1954.
In July of 1956 John enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he was assigned to many Air Force bases around the world. He spent the next 22 years working as a Quality Inspector for the United States Air Force. In 1977 John retired from the U.S. Air Force.
John had married his high school sweetheart Margaret Linderman in Dow City, Iowa. To this union were born two children Sarah and Tom. In November 1977 after retiring from the Air Force John and his family moved back to Dow City, Iowa.
During this time John worked for Smith Motor Supply, Sheps Manufacturing, and Denison Engineering, and part time at Ballantine Farms in Kiron, Iowa. In 1995 John remarried. He was united in marriage to Victoria Frain Jackson in Denison, Iowa. To this union joined stepchildren Marty, Tammy, Robert, and Tony.
John had many joys in life. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially fishing for trout in Montana. For many years John enjoyed driving the VA van and Veterans thousands of miles to their appointments.
John passed away Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Dunlap Specialty Care in Dunlap, Iowa attaining the age of 87 years and 24 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents David and Lois Ballantine, his wife Victoria, grandson Steven Harmon, and sister Arletta Brown.
Left to cherish his memory are his children Tom (Cindy) Ballantine of Greensboro, NC; Sarah Ballantine of Flandreau, SD; stepchildren Marty Jackson of Iowa City; Tammy Jackson of Spencer, IA; Robert Jackson of Arion, IA; Tony (Sarah) Jackson of Omaha, NE; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; sister Esther Berkan of Michigan.
