John Allen Kloewer was born July 3, 1946 to Al and Eva Kloewer in Defiance, Iowa. He attended St. Paul’s Catholic School and graduated with the Class of 1964. On July 31, 1971, John was united in marriage to Annette Ahrenholtz at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Defiance. They were blessed with two daughters, Susan Marie and Sara Ann.
John lived in Defiance his entire life and worked various jobs as a carpenter, including owning his own carpentry business. John built his home forty-three years ago, and his carpentry skills and knowledge were sought out by many seeking his advice and help on projects. John also served as a volunteer for the Defiance Fire Department for many years and enjoyed attending conferences with his fellow volunteers.
In 1991, John took over ownership of the pumping service business from his brother Don and for twenty-three years operated John Kloewer Pumping Service. He loved what he did for a living, especially visiting with his customers. His incredible work ethic and memory for details greatly contributed to his success in business.
John’s family and friends were the most important things to him. He was involved with his daughters’ activities throughout their school careers, served on the Harlan Community High School Athletic Booster Club board and was an active member of his church where he served as an usher, Eucharistic minister and member of the finance council. John loved people and being social was important to him his entire life. He enjoyed attending family events and activities, being with his friends and dining out at local restaurants where he was known as a favorite customer.
John died on September 29, 2014, at his home with his wife and daughters by his side following a courageous battle with liver cancer having attained the age of sixty-eight years, three months and twenty-six days. He is proceeded in death by his parents Al and Eva, his father- and mother-in law Harry and Annajean Ahrenholtz, his sisters Lucille Richards and Mary Ann Meyer and his brother Don.
He is survived by his wife Annette of Defiance, Iowa; his daughters Susan Marie and Sara Ann of West Des Moines, Iowa; his siblings Kay and her husband Jack Cook of Omaha, Nebraska; Shun and her husband Bob Dotzler of Earling, Iowa; Dorothy Johnston of Omaha, Nebraska; Rene and her husband Bump Assmann of Dunlap, Iowa; Jane and her husband Eldon Meyer of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; Joan and her husband Jack Strudthoff of Woodstock, Georgia; Bob Kloewer and his wife Karen of Defiance, Iowa; Suzanne and her husband Bert Lehan of Marcus, Iowa; and Rick Kloewer and his wife Nancy Kloewer of Defiance, Iowa; his sisters-in-law Mickey Kloewer of Defiance, Iowa and Jane and her husband Richard Carey of Tucson, Arizona; his brothers-in-law Gene Richards of Omaha, Nebraska; Clyde Meyer of Omaha, Nebraska; Harry Ahrenholtz Jr. and his wife Carol of Jefferson, Iowa; Roger Ahrenholtz and his wife Peg of Manilla, Iowa; and Clark Ahrenholtz and his wife Susan of Elk Horn, Iowa; many family members and countless friends.
