John Elmer Linde was born on May 22, 1951 to Elmer and Catherine (Jensen) Linde on a farm east of Harlan, Iowa. He was baptized at the United Methodist Church in Harlan and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. He attended the Harlan Community Schools and graduated with the Class of 1969. He attended Iowa State for one year partaking in the study of agronomy before returning to a farm located near his parent’s farm. He was successful with his farming until 1976.
On November 13, 1976, John was united in marriage to Roxanne Stephany at the United Methodist Church chapel. They moved to Jackson, Montana to pursue the next adventure in their lives, where their first son, Nathan, was born. They then moved back to Harlan in 1980 where their second son, Jason was born. They remained in Harlan and raised their family.
John worked for Shelby County at the landfill for thirty years retiring in August of 2013. He was a talented, hard working man, devoted husband, father, and Grandpa. John’s passions in life included the outdoors enjoying hunting, trapping, camping, fishing, and capturing all of nature’s splendor with his photography.
John lost his battle with cancer on Saturday, April 5, 2014 having attained the age of sixty-two years, ten months, and fourteen days. He was preceded in death by his father.
He is survived by his wife of nearly thirty-nine years, Roxanne Linde of Harlan, Iowa; his sons Nathan Linde and his wife Erin of Omaha, Nebraska and Jason Linde and his wife Susan also of Omaha, Nebraska; granddaughter Olivia; mother Catherine Linde Hansen of Harlan; sister Cheryll Polley of Carlisle, Iowa; other family members and many, many friends.
