John "Junny" Wageman

John Charles “Junny” Wageman, son of Barbara (Schechinger) and Charles Wageman, was born January 31, 1921, one of thirteen children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Westphalia, Iowa. He graduated high school in 1939 from St. Boniface School.

On May 1, 1951 Junny married Margaret Jean Schomers at St. Boniface Catholic Church, where he was a lifelong member. Six children were born to this union: Tom, JoAnn, Karen, Donna, Cheryl and Dan.

Junny farmed east of Westphalia until his retirement. He was a noted area baseball pitcher and sports fan, starting the Westphalia Harvest Tourney in 1964. He was actively involved on various St. Boniface Parish committees and was a seventy-one year member of Knights of Columbus Council Number 1741, served on the Harlan School Board, and was a part of establishing the Little Flower Haven in Earling, Iowa. He enjoyed playing cards and golf, achieving a hole-in-one in 2004.

Junny became a resident of Little Flower Haven in 2006. He died on May 16, 2014 at the age of ninety-three years, three months, and sixteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Barbara Wageman, wife Margaret Wageman, brothers and sisters Tony, Cecelia, Sister Mary Ruth, Catherine, Annie, Charles, Adeline, Agusta, William and Frankie.

He is survived by his children Tom Wageman of Harlan, Iowa, JoAnn and her husband Jim Hodapp of Westphalia, Iowa, Karen and her husband Rick Carroll of Omaha, Nebraska, Donna Tamura-Wageman and her husband Jim Tamura-Wageman of Kapolei, Hawaii, Cheryl Christiansen of Papillion, Nebraska and Dan Wageman and his wife Ailene of Wahoo, Nebraska; seventeen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and sisters Theresa Henscheid and Agnes Goetzinger of Westphalia, Iowa and Sister Joan Wageman of Omaha, Nebraska.
