Joseph John Peterson
March 26, 1934 — November 24, 2018
Joseph “Joe” Peterson, son of John P. and Josephine (Sandbothe) Peterson was born on March 26, 1934 in Portsmouth, Iowa. He was one of twelve children born. Joe was baptized at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Portsmouth and attended Catholic and Cass #4 country school.
Joe had two children, Richard “Dick” and Vicky. After he lost his son in 1976, his daughter Vicky and her husband Max stayed by his side respecting his wishes until he was called home.
Joe was the owner of Joe’s Garage in Walnut for many years and he worked as a mechanic his entire life. He was an avid animal lover; if it came to his door, it had a forever home.
Joe died on Saturday, November 24, 2018 at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa attaining the age of eighty-four years, seven months and twenty-nine days. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son Dick, sister Velma Wegner, brother-in-laws Ralph “Bud” Muell, Bill Hoss and Jim Havick, sister-in-law Sharon Peterson.
Left to cherish his memory, his daughter Vicky and her husband Max Davis of Springfield, Missouri; 4 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; siblings Dorothy and her husband Carl Michael of Logan, Iowa; Helen and her husband Charles Hanson of Moorhead, Iowa; Elaine Wageman and her friend Ron Blume of Apple Valley, Minnesota; Donald Peterson and his wife Glenda of Spencer, Iowa; Alvin Peterson of Chandler, Arizona; Kenny Peterson and his wife Corrine of Mesa, Arizona; Darlene Havick of Shenandoah, Iowa; Debra and her husband Dr. Mark Jensen of Livermore, Iowa; Terry Peterson and his wife Tomi of Spencer, Iowa; Ron Skalla of Texas; brother-in-law Ronald Wegner of Harlan, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.
