Josephine Magdalene Marshall, daughter of Edward and Lena Wageman, was born on December 18, 1915, on her parent�s farm northeast of Defiance, Iowa. She was baptized, received her first communion, and was confirmed at St. Peter�s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from St. Paul�s High School in 1934.
Josephine continued her education in Carroll, Iowa, where she became a registered nurse. She worked at the Denison hospital and eventually became the supervisor of nursing at the hospital. She worked many years in Denison as Dr. Grau�s private nurse, and later Dr. Sol�s nurse.
Josephine was united in marriage to Finos R. Marshall on March 9, 1942, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They had a son, Robert Lee Marshall. Josephine adopted her sister Rose McCollum�s two children, William Bruce McCollum and Karen Kay McCollum. Josephine was a wonderful, caring mother for her three children.
Josephine was a talented pianist and played for many dances in the surrounding area with her sisters that formed the Wageman Sisters band. In later years, she enjoyed playing the piano and dancing with her very special friend John Sheilds of Denison, Iowa.
She became a resident of the Dunlap Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in May of 2000. Josephine died on November 25, 2008, having attained the age of ninety-two years, eleven months, and seven days. In addition to her parents, Josephine was preceded in death by three sisters: Rose McCollum, Kathryn Sonderman, and Verdilla Bertelsen; and two brothers: Henry and George Wageman.
She is survived by her son William McCollum and his wife Elizabeth from Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, Robert Marshall and his wife Anne from Omaha, Nebraska, and Karen Hiller from Minneapolis, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her sisters: Ann Weatherby of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Leona Buman of Harlan, Iowa; her brothers: Elmer and his wife Margaret Wageman of Defiance, Iowa and Edward and his wife Judith Wagman of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota; other family members and friends.
Mass of Christian Burial was held 10:00 A.M. on Monday, December 1, 2008, at St Peter�s Catholic Church in Defiance, Iowa, with Rev. Gerald Melchior celebrating and Rev. Tom Coenen concelebrating. Burial was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Defiance with Jeanne Hiller, Marsha Miller, Kristie Love and Laura Scott serving as honorary casket bearers and Robert Marshall, Jr., John Marshall, Don Wageman, William Hiller, Ron Arkfeld and Robert Scott serving as casket bearers.
