Joshua Dean Malcolm, the son of Stan and Vanessa (Bridegroom) Malcolm, was born on May 7, 1977, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1986, the family made their home in Shelby. Joshua attended grade school in Shelby and graduated from A-H-S-T in Avoca with the Class of 1996. He was baptized at the Denison Aquatic Center through the Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall of Harlan, Iowa.
Joshua had a great sense of humor and knew no fear. He enjoyed visiting with other people and encouraged them to be strong and faithful. He filled that empty spot in the heart of so many people. He loved old cars and the mustang was his favorite. Joshua attended the Special Olympics where he won several medals and was awarded for being the most talkative at three MDA camps.
Joshua died on Thursday, January 17, 2008, at the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of thirty years, eight months and ten days.
Survivors include his parents: Stan and Vanessa Malcolm of Shelby; his sisters: Brenda and her husband Tim Wheelock of Anita, Iowa; Natashia and her husband Mike Gubbels of Norfolk, Nebraska and brother Joel Malcolm of Shelby; his grandparents; several aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives and a great number of friends and caregivers.
Funeral Services were held on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 1:00 PM at the Shelby School Gymnasium, Shelby, Iowa with Dennis Loghry as the clergy. Serving as Honorary Casket Bearers were Erin Hines and Jerry Schropp and casket bearers were Mike Gubbels, Kyle Loghry, Joel Malcolm, Gary Strange, Clint Knoell and Johnathan Bowles. Interment was held in the Shelby Cemetery, Shelby, Iowa.
