Joyce Elaine Johnson was born at Denison, Iowa, February 12, 1948, the daughter of Edward and Edna Beerman Bandow. She was received into God’s Kingdom of Grace through the sacrament of Holy Baptism at Zion Lutheran Church, Denison, Iowa, April 4, 1948, and confirmed in her Christian Faith there April 15, 1962. She was raised on the farm in East Boyer Township and later in Westside Township graduating from the Ar-We-Va High School. Joyce was united in marriage with Randall Johnson and their union was blessed with three children, Todd, Jennifer and Rebecca. She made her home in Vail until 1988 when the family moved to Cherokee. They then resided in Vermillion, South Dakota for three years moving to Denison in 1994. In 2000 she moved to Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, residing there until moving to Sioux City in 2006 where she had since resided. During her adult years she continued her education receiving her Associative Arts Degree from Western Iowa Tech. Joyce held various jobs through the years including employment at Cronks, Denison Job Corps, and most recently, she was employed in the housekeeping department at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City from which she retired in 2009. She was a licensed Day Care Provider and especially enjoyed caring for her grandsons. In her spare time she enjoyed crossword puzzles and will be remembered by her family for her love of cooking big holiday and special occasion meals. Joyce died Monday, November 21, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 63 years, 9 months and 9 days. Including her parents, Joyce was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Amy Marie Johnson and one brother, Howard Bandow. Those remaining to cherish her memory include three children: Todd Johnson of Sac City, Iowa, Jennifer Brouillette of Sioux City, Iowa, and Rebecca Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa; five grandsons: Zachary, Edward and Jordan Brouillette and Colby and Conner Johnson all of Sioux City, Iowa, one brother, Donald Bandow of Platte Center, Nebraska, one sister, Marilyn Scroggins of Grimes, Iowa, other relatives and friends.  Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 25, 2011, at Pfannebecker Funeral Home in Denison, Iowa, with the Rev. Kurt R. Kaiser and the Rev. David M. Sewing officiating. Music for the service included vocal recorded selections of “Amazing Grace”, “What A Friend We Have in Jesus” and “Silent Night”. Honorary pallbearers included Colby and Conner Johnson. Those serving as pallbearers were Don Bandow, Todd Johnson, Edward, Zachary and Jordan Brouillette and Tom Scroggins. Interment was at the Nishnabotna Cemetery, Manilla, Iowa. The Pfannebecker Funeral Home, www.pfannebecker.com , Denison, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
