The daughter of Bernhard and Ruth (Wellner) Schmieder, Joyce Jean Lohoff, was born on January 14, 1951, in Ute, Iowa. Joyce was a devoted member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Ute, Iowa, where her faith played a central role in her life. She graduated from Charter Oak High School and later worked for the FBI in Washington, D.C., in the fingerprint department, where she took pride in her role.
In May of 1972, Joyce married Bill Lohoff, and together they had two children, Shawn and Shane. While they later divorced, Joyce's love for her children remained unwavering throughout her life. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, cherishing every moment spent with her grandchildren Brielle and Kinsley.
Joyce loved spending her time attending Bears games, sewing, and playing computer games, puzzles, and board games with her family. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life, especially the companionship of her dog, Marshall, and her cats. Joyce also enjoyed working at Menards, where she made many lasting friendships through her hard work and warm personality.
Joyce passed away on Tuesday, February 11, 2025, at her home having attained the age of 74 years and 28 days. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Bernhard and Ruth Wellner Schmieder; her siblings, Anthony and Susan; and her brother-in-law, Bill Doudy.
