Juanita Jean Frieze was born on May 5, 1945 to Mart and Juanita (Bothwell) Pruett in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was baptized at Willow Lake church and traveled with her family all over Iowa. She started school in Onawa, Iowa and attended other schools in Western Iowa, including Okoboji, Iowa.
On February 9, 1970, Juanita was united in marriage to Kent Frieze in Omaha, Nebraska. Together they raised four children: Melvin, Kenneth, Christine, and Pam. After their marriage, the family lived in Minnesota for ten years and lived between Iowa and Minnesota until they retired and settled in Harlan.
Juanita worked in the packaging department at Baum Iron and enjoyed playing cards, going to the casino, garage saling, and spending time with her family and friends.
She died at her home on Monday, September 23, 2013, having attained the age of sixty-eight years, four months, and eighteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Marty, John, and George.
Juanita is survived by her husband Kent Frieze of Harlan, Iowa; children: Melvin Smith and his wife Connie of Sioux City, Iowa, Kenneth Smith and his wife Corinna of Harlan, Iowa, Christine Smith of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Pam Frieze of Harlan, Iowa; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother Kenneth Gillett and his wife of Council Bluffs, Iowa; other family members and friends.
Pastor Jeff Erlemeier officiated the 2:00 PM funeral service on Thursday, September 26, 2013 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan. Honorary casket bearers were Melvin Smith and Terry Fields. Serving as casket bearers were Kenneth Smith, Mike Anderson, Danny Anderson, Michael Hall, Mark Bothwell, Derek Bothwell, Harley Smith, and Robert Ney. Interment was held at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa
