Judy Wineland

October 30, 1940 — February 23, 2025

Judy Wineland, born on October 30, 1940, in Oakland, Iowa, was the daughter of Harry and Roberta (Roberts) Petersen. Raised in a close-knit family, Judy's early life was shaped by the values of love and generosity. She graduated from AvoHa High School in 1958, where she developed a love for creativity, particularly through sewing.

After high school, Judy moved to Omaha to pursue further education, enrolling in business college. This was a period of self-growth for Judy, as she found a way to balance her studies with her creative passions. Sewing doll clothes became one of her favorite hobbies, and she went above and beyond to share this talent with others by donating dolls and their outfits to children in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and it was clear that she had a heart full of compassion for others, particularly for those less fortunate.

In 1960, Judy married Larry Wineland, and together they had three children: Larry Jr., LaNette, and Bobby. Their marriage, while later ending in divorce, was filled with memorable family moments. Judy cherished her role as a mother and took great pride in her children. Over the years, she instilled in them the same values she held dear, including the importance of kindness.

Judy was a woman of many interests and passions. She was a fan of the Nebraska Cornhuskers, always cheering for the team with unwavering loyalty. Her love for music was also notable, as she was a big fan of Elvis Presley, often listening to his music and enjoying the nostalgia that came with it.

Additionally, Judy found great joy in following NASCAR, with a particular fondness for Dale Earnhardt Jr., whom she admired both as a driver and as a person. She had a zest for life, always happy and with a smile on her face, whether it was cheering on her favorite teams or enjoying the thrill of a race.

Shopping was another passion of Judy's, and she enjoyed spending time perusing stores like Walmart, taking advantage of Kmart’s blue light specials, and browsing QVC for the latest home décor items. Her love for decorating shone through in her home, where she would often buy new things to refresh the spaces she held dear.

On Sunday, February 23, 2025, Judy passed away surrounded by her loving family having attained the age of 84 years, 3 months and 24 days. She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Roberta; and brother Daryl Petersen.

Left to cherish her memory are her 3 loving children Larry Jr. and wife Connie Wineland of Avoca, Iowa; LaNette Coffelt of Omaha, Nebraska; Bobby and wife Carole Wineland of Council Bluffs, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Gayle Petersen of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; other family and many friends.
