Junabell Rosinda Katherine Maak was born January 12, 1922, the daughter of Edward and Hermina Voss Paulsen. She died June 13, 2008, at Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison, Iowa at the age of eighty-six. Junabell was born in Cushing, Iowa. She was baptized October 15, 1922 in Cushing and later confirmed at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township, Kiron, Iowa, on June 18, 1944. She received her education at Rock Center Country School and Cushing High School. After completing her education, she helped her family on the farm and assisted other family members in the area as needed. On February 6, 1944, Junabell was united in marriage with Elmer Maak at St. John?s Lutheran Church, Stockholm Township. Their union was blessed with two daughters, MarJean and Raynetta. They made their home on a farm near Kiron, Iowa until 1965 when they moved to Denison. Junabell was employed at various department stores in Denison where she loved to meet and socialize with many new faces. In her leisure time she loved making quilts and sewing projects to share with her family, walking, polka music and rummage sales. Most important though, was spending time with her family and her many grandchildren. She loved baking such things as homemade bread and rolls, German pancakes, chocolate frosted cookies and pies. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Junabell was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer, her parents, and two sisters; Lorraine Buss and Edeline Jorgensen. Survivors include two daughters; MarJean Petersen and her husband Richard of Denison, Iowa, Raynetta Rice and her husband Gary of Sioux City, Iowa, four grandchildren; Starla and Brian Struck of Denison, Iowa, Tyler and Audra Rice of Sioux City, Iowa, Kyle and Shawn Petersen of Sioux City, Iowa, and Jayson and Carrie Rice of South Sioux City, Nebraska, 16 great grandchildren, Kayla, Dylan, and Madison Struck, Katelyn, Nathan and Auden Rice, T.J. and Morgan Tucker, Larry Dooley, Paisley and Parker Petersen, Tyson and Amaya Sanchez, Brynn Rice and Sydney and Brett Prenger, one sister; Shirlene Johnson and her husband Larry of Cushing, Iowa, and many other relatives and friends.
