Kandy Jo (McGurren) Dea was born to Dennis and Billye Rae (Jackson) McGurren on April 1, 1960 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She was baptized at Southside Christian Church. She attended grade school and junior high school in Council Bluffs, Iowa before moving to Shelby, Iowa where she attended high school. After graduating from high school she attended Iowa Western Community College and receiving her Associate of Arts Degree. She then went to Buena Vista University where she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
She married Dan Dea in 1983 in Storm Lake, Iowa and they were blessed with three children: Danielle, Dalton and Dustin.
Kandy worked various jobs through the years as a waitress and running her own preschool all before teaching in Walnut. She taught Art, but also taught many other classes, wherever she was needed. She taught at Walnut Community School in Walnut, Iowa for fifteen years.
Kandy passed away on Friday, April 29, 2016 at her home surrounded by her family having attained the age of fifty six years and twenty eight days. She is preceded in death by her grandparents and greatgrandparents; father Dennis McGurren; father-in-law John Dea; niece Kelsey; nephews Bryce and John.
Left to cherish her memory are her husband Dan Dea of Avoca, Iowa; children: Danielle and her husband Sean Monson of Harlan, Iowa and their two children - Jackson and Bennett; Dalton Dea and his fiancé Alyssa Stoehr of Walnut, Iowa; Dustin Dea and significant other Justine Jones of Walnut, Iowa and their two children - Kaytlynn and Kaleb; mother Billye (Ben) Dollen of Harlan, Iowa; sisters: Kerry and her husband Steve Nelsen of Kansas City, Missouri; Kelly Swisher and Pat Behrendt of Harlan, Iowa; Kimmy and her husband Kelly Kobold of Kirkman, Iowa; and Kasey McGurren and Mark Leal of Avoca, Iowa; two step-sisters - Chantelle (Mark) Brandt and Heather (Johnnie) Witt; many nephews, nieces and friends.
