Karen Annette Monahan, daughter of Kenneth "Casey" and Evelyn (Ploughman) Christensen, was born on April 20, 1957, in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Michael�s Catholic Church in Harlan and attended Harlan Community Schools.
Karen was united in marriage to Phil Monahan at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan. They are the parents of one daughter, Amanda.
Karen had a quest for knowledge and was a constant student having taken many Iowa Western Classes. She was employed at Communications Data Services Inc. in Harlan since July 1984 most recently as a Training Administrator for the Magazine Fulfillment Department. She traveled to different cities to train clients on the system.
Karen always found the right words and could speak very well. Many from CDS remember her having a different pair of shoes for every outfit she wore.
She was a member of St. Michael�s Catholic Church in Harlan. She also enjoyed going to Disney World in Orlando, Florida and volunteering at summer camps.
Karen died on Saturday, July 19, 2008 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, having attained the age of fifty-one years, two months, and twenty-nine days.
She is survived by her daughter Amanda Monahan of Harlan and her parents Casey and Evelyn Christensen of Harlan; other family members and many friends.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at Pauley Jones Funeral Home in Harlan, Iowa. Rev. John Frost officiated the 11:00 AM service with burial at the Harlan Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers were: Pamela Rodger, Timothy Grimsley, David Johnson, Dean Hansen, Laurie Clarkson, David Pope, John Bartunek, and Jeanette Bartunek.
