Kathleen Ann Hawes was born February 2, 1962 in Denison, Iowa, the third of six children to Vernon and Darlene (Swanson) Reis. She shared a birthday with her older sister, Kim, and they were both born on Vernon and Darlene’s wedding anniversary.
Kathleen attended Denison Community Schools and Denison High School. As an adult, she achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Northern Iowa in the late 1990's.
Kathleen was a loving mother to Josh, Sara, Lora, Andrea, Lila, and Patrisha. She married John Wolterman February 11, 1984 and later married Clay Hawes March 18, 2014. Kathleen was a happy, cheerful, optimistic woman who truly loved her children. She enjoyed playing games with them, teasing them, and taking an interest in what they enjoyed.
Kathleen died suddenly on June 26, 2017, achieving the age of 55 years, 4 months, and 24 days. She had generously chosen to donate her organs to support the lives of others. Kathleen is preceded in death by her father, Vernon Reis; maternal grandparents Herb and Irene (Stolz) Swanson; paternal grandparents Henry and Gladys (Hardy) Reis; six uncles and two aunts Survivors include her mother, Darlene Reis of Denison, IA; husband Clay Hawes of Denison,IA; children: Josh Wolterman (Emily Vaughn) of Omaha, NE , Sara (Perry) Edholm of Olathe, KS, Lora (Jeromie) Kramer of Westside, IA, Andrea Wolterman (Chad Hess) of Carroll, IA, Lila Rood and Patrisha Wolterman of Denison, IA; step-daughter Becki Hawes of Westside, IA; 7 grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren; sisters: Kim (Kevin) Nulle of Ida Grove, IA, Kristie (Brad) Fredrichs of Plattsmouth, NE; brothers: Kevin Reis of Denison, IA, Kelly Reis of Webster City, IA, Kary Reis of Ida Grove, IA; parents-in-law Stan and Jean Hawes of Denison, IA; and a large extended family.
