Kathleen “Kathy” Louise Haynes
Kathy was born on December 5, 1953 to Marvin and Helen (Masching) Stevens in Carroll, Iowa. She grew up in Carroll and was the oldest of eight children. She was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Templeton, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Kuemper Catholic Schools and later DMACC, receiving her LPN.
She married Philip McCarthy in 1974 and that union blessed them with four children: Jim, Carrie, Anne and Terry. They raised their family in the Hancock and Avoca area, where she was active in the community, St. Mary’s Catholic Church and school events.
Her second marriage was to Arnold Haynes and they made their home in Council Bluffs, Iowa and later Hancock, Iowa. They were married fifteen years, at the time of her passing. Kathy retired from nursing in 2005 due to health issues.
She enjoyed reading, sewing, spending time with friends and family. She was known as Grandma Fred to her grandchildren.
After a long battle and chronic illness she passed away surrounded by her family at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha Nebraska having attained sixty one years, eight months and twenty two days. She was preceded in death by her father Marvin Stevens, granddaughter Ayzlee McCarthy, sister-in-law Nancy Block and brother-in-law Robert Haynes.
She leaves behind to mourn her passing husband Arnold Haynes of Hancock, Iowa; Son Jim McCarthy and his wife Amber of Elk Horn, Iowa; Daughter Carrie and her husband Gale Kiesel of Avoca, Iowa; Daughter Anne McCarthy of Council Bluffs; Son Terry McCarthy and his wife LeAnne of Walnut, Iowa; Grandchildren: Dalton and Marissa McKiddy; Schuyler, Brent, Dylan, Seth and Sawyer Kiesel; Ashtyn, Ayden, Easton, Irelynd and Olivia McCarthy; Jordan, Joseph and Emma Blotler; and Jaxson Riedeman; three great grandchildren; mother Helen Stevens of Carroll, Iowa; siblings Robert Stevens and his wife Darlene of Yuma, Arizona; James Stevens and his wife Kay of Carroll, Iowa; Connie and her husband Mike Riesselman of Willey, Iowa; JoAnn and her husband Mike Klocke of Coon Rapids, Iowa; John Stevens and his wife Mary Lou of Templeton, Iowa; Susan and her husband Steve Frank of Carroll, Iowa; and Sharon Zaruba of Waukee, Iowa; brother-in-law Mark Haynes and his wife Theresa and their family; other family and friends.
Memorials can be given in Kathy’s honor to the City of Hancock, Iowa.
