Kathryn M. Curnyn was born December 3, 1933 to Henry and Catharina (Muhlbauer) Riesselman in Halbur, IA. She attended school in Halbur and graduated from St. Angela Academy in 1951. After school she worked for the bank in Halbur, IA.

She married Gordon Podey on November 30, 1952 at St. Augustine Church in Halbur, IA. They moved to a farm north of Deloit and had 2 children Laurie and Carol. Gordon died February 26, 1962. Katie moved to Denison and worked at Iowa Beef Packers. She went to work for the Clerk of District Court and after 25 years retired June 30, 1994. On August 7, 1968 she married Bob Curnyn.

Katie liked bowling, playing cards, and golfing. 2 Holes In One! Most important were her family, friends, and faith. She was a longtime member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Denison, IA, where she attended daily Mass, weekly Adoration, and had been a member of the church choir. Part of her daily routine included walks with Bob.

She died on Thursday, November 5, 2020 at Eventide Nursing Home in Denison, IA, attaining the age of eighty-six years, eleven months and two days. In addition to her parents and first husband, she was preceded in death by her grandson Brett Christiansen; her brothers Herb, Lawrence, Walt, Vince, and Hank; her sister Marie; her sister-in-laws Delores, Ada, Lucille, Edith, and Donna; her brother-in-laws Bill and Tom.

Survivors include her husband Bob Curnyn of Denison, IA; her daughters Laurie (Jeff) Christiansen of St. Joesph, MO; Carol (Scott) Brus of Denison, IA; her grandchildren Katelyn (Randy) Deiber; Holly, Andy, and Hannah Brus; Ryan Christiansen; Erin (Tyler) Sten; her two great-grandchildren Bryce Deiber and Niall Sten; her siblings Jean Frischmeyer of Lidderdale, IA; Andy (JoAnn) Riesselman of Carroll, IA; Leonard Riesselman of Halbur, IA; Alice Christiansen of Denison, IA; Vernie(Betty) Riesselman of Halbur, IA; sister-in-law Linda Riesselman; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
