Kathryn E. Fink was born on a farm near Vail, Iowa, February 8, 1921, the daughter of Jess C. and Cora E. Chapman Nielsen. She was raised at Deloit, Iowa, where she received her education graduating from the Deloit High School with the class of 1939. On May 12, 1940, Kathryn was united in marriage with Donald E. Fink at the First Baptist Church in Denison. Their union was blessed with three children, Sharon, Don, Jr. and Ronald. They made their home in Deloit until 1947 when they moved to the Fink family farm at Deloit where Kathryn was a busy homemaker and farmwife. In 1975 the Finks moved to Denison where she had since resided. Kathryn was a homemaker all of her life, lovingly caring for her family which she was very supportive of in all their endeavors in life. One of her greatest pleasures was to have the family over for meals. She loved to garden, always making sure there were plenty of potatoes planted and harvested. In her spare time she enjoyed sewing, quilting, traveling, playing the piano and instilling that interest in many of her family members and window shopping. Don and Kathryn were long time members of the Deloit United Methodist Church where Kathryn was active in the United Methodist Women and served as pianist for worship services for thirty years. Following the closing of the Deloit Church, the Finks transferred their membership to First United Methodist Church in Denison where Kathryn was active as long as her health permitted. After suffering a stroke, Kathryn entered Eventide Lutheran Home in Denison in March of 2005 and it was there her death occurred Monday evening, November 26, 2007. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 86 years, 9 months and 18 days. For the past two years of her life at Eventide Kathryn spent a considerable amount of time with her faithful friend, Sam, the family dog, which brought her great comfort. Kathryn was preceded in death by her father, Jess C. Nielsen in 1963, mother, Cora Nielsen in 1988, brother, Elmer Nielsen in 1975, granddaughter, Jennifer Fink in 1981, son-in-law, the Rev. Joseph Boysen in 2002 and her daughter, Sharon K. Boysen in 2004. Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband of over 67 years, Donald E. Fink, Sr. of Denison, two sons, Don E. Fink, Jr. and wife, Betty of Deloit and Ronald Fink and wife Deb of Denison, four grandchildren, Shannon Fink of Kansas City, Kansas, Sean Fink of Knoxville, Iowa, Jessica and husband, Nick Pilling of Clive, Iowa and Jeff Fink of Denison, other relatives and friends.
