Keith Allen Jensen
September 8, 1932 — May 25, 2017
Keith Allen Jensen, son of Elmer and Freda (Meyers) Jensen was born September 8, 1932 on a farm near Defiance, Iowa. He attended school in Irwin, Iowa where he graduated from Irwin High School with the class of 1949.
Keith met Dorothy Ann Ruberg of Denison at a roller skating rink and the couple married March 27, 1954, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Denison, Iowa. Four children were born to this union: Joni, Nancy, Linda and James (Jim). They lived on the Jensen home place and Keith farmed and raised livestock. During this time he also worked at the ASCS office measuring land. In 1994, Keith retired from farming and then went to work at the Shelby County Golf Course assisting the groundskeeper. He took great pride in his work there and enjoyed meeting all the people.
In 2001, Keith and Dorothy built a new home in Irwin and they moved to town. As hesitant as he was to move from the farm, he loved living in town. His neighbors were like his second family and he was so appreciative of all their kindness. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, traveling, attending grandchildren's sporting events, but mostly spending time with family and friends. He & Dorothy took each grandchild on a special vacation. Ian, his youngest grandchild, lived with them for 4 months during Devin's bone marrow transplant. Alexis, Ian's sister stayed with them for 2 months during the same time. At the age of 61, Keith was dedicated to helping his family and raising a baby.
As a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Irwin, he served on the council and ushered. He also served as a school board member, Farm Bureau director, Lions Club member, Shelby County Golf Course board member and a Cub Scout leader.
Keith died on Thursday, May 25, 2017 at the Manilla Manor in Manilla, Iowa attaining the age of eighty-four years, eight months and seventeen days. He was preceded in death by his parents.
He has left to cherish his memory, his wife of sixty-three years Dorothy Jensen of Irwin, Iowa; children Joni and her husband Scott Neppl of DeForest, Wisconsin; Nancy and her husband Alan Larson of Denison, Iowa; Linda and her husband Kurt Brue of Council Bluffs, Iowa; James Jensen and his wife Adrienne of Redmond, Washington; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters Darlene Heilesen of Harlan, Iowa; Donna and her husband Norman Campbell of Irwin, Iowa; Caryl and her husband William McMahon of Irwin, Iowa; brother-in-law Ray Ruberg of Moville, Iowa; sisters-in-law Betty Griffin of Denison, Iowa; Jean Jensen of Audubon, Iowa; other family members and friends.
