Kenneth Lee Escher was born on January 22, 1935 to Walter and Pauline (Green) Escher on a farm northwest of Tennant, Iowa. He attended country schools in Tennant and Kirkman, Iowa and graduated from Tennant High School with the Class of 1953.
After graduation, he began farming on the family farm. He learned the electrical trade from Joe Schomers and worked for him while he continued to farm. In January of 1957, Kenny entered the United States Army, serving in Korea before being honorably discharged in 1959. He returned to his farming career after his military service.
On August 3, 1963, Kenny was united in marriage to Donna Fahn at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Panama, Iowa. They were lifelong Shelby County residents and continued to farm in the area. In 1990, Kenny was named Pork Producer of the Year and Cattleman of the Year in 1992.
He was a member of the Parian Lodge No. 321 A. F. & A. M., Abu-Bekr Shrine Temple of Sioux City, York Rite, Sioux City Consistory, Abu Bekr Shrine Harlan T-Patrol, and Royal Order of Jesters Sioux City Court 124. He enjoyed woodworking and made many Christmas presents for his family and friends.
Kenny was at the University of Nebraska Medical Center when he died on Monday, June 6, 2016 having attained the age of eighty-one years, four months, and fifteen days. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Henry, and sister Darlene.
He is survived by his wife Donna Escher of Harlan, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
