Kenneth Alvin Kuster was born on March 25, 1924, the oldest of four children born to Walter and Jean (Gibson) Kuster of rural Persia, Iowa. He attended Banner Country School through grade school and Woodbine High School, graduating in 1941. He attended Iowa State University for one year before joining the Army and being sent to Oklahoma A & M in Stillwater, Oklahoma, for classes and boot camp. Following training in Stillwater, Ken served with the 103rd Infantry Division in Europe, returning home in April of 1946.
Kenneth was united in marriage to Ruth Kean at St. Mary’s Church in Dawson, Nebraska on September 15, 1948. They lived on the same farm northwest of Persia, Iowa, for thirty-eight years, retiring to Harlan, Iowa, in August of 1986. Ruth died on December 7, 2010.
Kenneth died on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at Elm Crest Retirement Home having attained the age of ninety-one years, nine months, and twenty-five days. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Ruth.
He is survived by his children: Kenneth Terrence Kuster and his wife Linda of East Kingston, New Hampshire, daughter Kathleen Ellen and her husband Terry King of Muncy, Indiana, and Charles Robert Kuster and his wife Joanne of Johnston, Iowa; seven grandchildren: Jake Kuster, Gillian Kuster Campion, Andrew and Jonathan King, Daniel, Mary Kuster-Shell and Emily Kuster Vetterick; four great-grandchildren; brother, Robert Kuster of rural Persia, Iowa; sisters Mary Jean Barney of Logan, Iowa, and Beverly Nelson of rural Persia; also many nieces, nephews and friends.
