Kristine Evelyn McLaughlin was born June 28, 1945 in Maquoketa, Iowa. She became the daughter of Nels “Andy” and Evelyn (Nelsen) Andersen of Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church in Harlan and grew up attending school at Monroe Township Country School and graduating from Harlan High School with the class of 1963.
After high school, Kristine went to Stewart Hair School in Des Moines, Iowa. She returned to Harlan, where she helped her mother at Andersen Clothing. Kristine met the love of her life Edward McLaughlin and joined him in marriage on February 26, 1965 having two ceremonies, one at the First Baptist Church in Harlan and another at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan. She continued to help her mother at the clothing store, until Kristine became a wonderful full-time homemaker and mother to Edward Donald, Wade Allen, Angela Kristine and Jennifer Lynn when she and Ed lived in Harlan, Iowa. They then moved to Oakland, Iowa. They also lived in Hartley, Iowa for some time, then moved to Woodbine, Iowa and then settled in Oakland, Nebraska.
Kristine most of all loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Kristine also enjoyed swimming, traveling to Branson in the summer and making ceramic Christmas ornaments for her beloved grandchildren. Baking and making her famous macoroni salad was a request at every gathering. Kristine touched many lives throughout her life. She was always sharing a smile and she had the most infectious laugh. Making her laugh was something her family loved to do. Kristine made a lasting expression on everyone she came in contact with, even if it was just for a moment. She loved a hug and a kiss everyday from her loving husband Edward.
Kristine died on Sunday, January 15, 2017 surrounded by her loving family at the Oakland Mercy Hospital in Oakland, Nebraska attaining the age of seventy-one years, six months and eighteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-one years, Edward McLaughlin of Oakland, Nebraska; children Edward Donald McLaughlin and his wife Amy of Bellevue, Nebraska; Wade Allen McLaughlin and his wife Ronda of Oakland, Iowa; Angela Kristine and her husband Kenny Ferdinand of Fremont, Nebraska; Jennifer Lynn and her husband Chris Ferdinand of Oakland, Nebraska; eleven grandchildren; one great grandchild; brother Terry Andersen and his wife Carmen of Mexico; sister and brother-in-laws; nieces and nephews; other family members and many friends.
