Larry L. Kay
Larry L. Kay passed away Monday February 22, 2016 at his home in Walnut, Iowa. Larry, the youngest of three children, was born September 2, 1939 to Elden and Mayme (Jensen) Kay in Atlantic, Iowa.
Larry attended Brighton #2 grade school near Marne, Iowa and
after graduating from Atlantic High School attended Iowa State
University and graduated in 1961 with a B.S. degree in Farm Operations. He was a member of Farmhouse Fraternity.
In 1961 he married Carolyn Jensen and two children were born to this union, Brad and Carmen. In 1982 Larry married Judy Morehead and they resided on the farm east of Walnut until 2000 when they moved in to Walnut. Larry farmed up until 2014 when he had to slow down
because of his illness.
Farming and cattle feeding were a central part of Larry’s life which he dearly loved. In 1992 Larry was elected President of the Iowa Corn Growers Association and later served on the National Corn Growers Board for several years. Larry served in the National Guard for seven years, the Walnut City Council and was recently named to the Cass County Cattle Feeders Hall of Fame.
Larry was preceded in death by his father Elden Kay; mother Mayme Kay; sister Marcella Jensen and brother-in-law Tom Morehead.
Larry is survived by his wife Judy of thirty three years, son Brad Kay and his wife Patty of Walnut, Iowa; daughter Carmen Anstey of
Atlantic, Iowa; Step-children: Susan and her husband Doug Shepherd of Walnut, Iowa; Michael Pigg of Florida; Melinda Wardingo of Florida; Carrie Cisneros of Louisiana; and Patrick Pigg of New Virginia, Iowa; six grandchildren: Heather, Steven, Kelly, Paige, Morgan and Hannah; seven step-grandchildren: Brian, Aaron, Katie, Kyle, Christie, Hollie, Kaylie and ten great grandchildren; brother Ronald Kay and his wife Diana of Texas; brother’s-in-law Hugh Morehead of Missouri; John Morehead of Missouri, Don Jensen and his wife Sharon of Atlantic, Iowa; other relatives and many friends.
Larry asked that In lieu of flowers Memorials would be given to St. Patrick's Cemetery, Peace United Church of Christ or Walnut Food Pantry.
