Larry F. Waldemar was born on the family farm near Deloit, Iowa, July 27, 1939, the son of Clarence and Myrtle Clauson Waldemar. He was raised on the farm and received his education in country schools, graduating from the Odebolt, Iowa High School with the class of 1957. He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, returning to the family farm after an honorable discharge. On November 26, 1960, Larry was united in marriage with Sandra K. Boman at Forest City, Iowa. They made their home on the farm where he was raised. Their union was blessed with four children, Bradley, Lorie, Todd and Wendy. Larry loved his career in agriculture, thriving on the hard work and peacefulness and rewards of tilling the soil. He felt very close to his Lord surrounded by God's creation. At the end of a busy day, he relished a ride on his Harley Davidson, many times taking the children with him for an ice cream treat at Dairy Queen. He had numerous hobbies, especially playing the guitar and singing ballads for his family. His unique story telling ability and quick sense of humor were wonderful! Among other things, Larry collected toy tractors, planes, pocket knives, and coins. He really enjoyed Sudoku puzzles and Civil War History. Closest to his heart was his special ability to memorize Scripture. Larry was a lifetime and active member of First Baptist Church in Kiron, Ia., where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, and Sunday School Teacher. He was a member of the American Legion Post 383 of Kiron, and a Farm Bureau member. A highlight in serving his community was being on the Denison-Schleswig School Board from 1984-1993, serving as President for eight years. Following retirement in 1998, Larry and Sandy moved to Denison, Iowa, where they lived for 10 years, then moving to Carroll, Iowa, to be close to the dialysis unit at St. Anthony's Hospital where he made many friends. Larry entered into his Savior's presence on August 3, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, after a long illness. At the time of his death, he was 71 years and one week. Including his parents, Clarence and Myrtle Waldemar, Larry was preceded in death by his brother, James, one granddaughter, Caroline Waldemar, and sister-in-law, Gretchen Waldemar.
