Lavonne Lucille Springman was born on October 9, 1939 to Fred and Edna (Dobernecker) Meier in Persia, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Persia and in 1958, became a member of St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church in Portsmouth.
She attended Persia Schools, graduating from Persia High School with the Class of 1958. On August 9th of that year, she was united in marriage to Nick Springman, Jr. They became parents to three daughters: Deb, Connie, and Dianna. Lavonne loved being a homemaker, raising her daughters, and helping her husband on the farm. She was dedicated to her family and was the first one to help others in their times of need, especially if it involved cooking.
Lavonne was a great cook and organized the family gatherings. She was amazing with her grandchildren and loved spending time with them, teaching them card games and most importantly, what love and family was all about.
She volunteered her time whenever needed, especially if it involved her church. After a lawn mower accident several years ago, her health began declining and she became a resident of Elm Crest Nursing Home in Harlan. It was there that she died on Sunday, August 17, 2014, having attained the age of seventy-four years, ten months, and eight days. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers Fred and Ronald Meier.
She is survived by her husband of fifty-six years Nick Springman, Jr. of Portsmouth, Iowa; daughters: Deb Schimerowski and Craig Wehr of Park View, Iowa, Connie Marquardt of Dumont, Colorado, and Dianna Springman of San Fransisco, California; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters: Rogena Schmidt of Avoca, Iowa, Lotus and her husband Marion Martin of Harlan, Iowa, and Deanna and her husband Marvin Huebner of Persia, Iowa; brothers Robert Meier and his wife Janet of Irwin, Iowa and Richard Meier and his wife Kathy of Tabor, Iowa; sisters-in-law Mona Meier of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Gloria Meier of Tabor, Iowa; other family members and friends.
