Lawrence J. Weihs was born on December 4, 1936 to Lawrence and Ann (Daeges) Weihs at a farm near Kirkman, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth, Iowa. He attended the Gardner Country School. He graduated from Loras Academy in 1956 where he excelled in high school sports. After high school he returned to the Portsmouth area to farm with his farther. He also drove truck and worked at the Campbell Soup Plant in Omaha, Nebraska. He is a lifetime member of St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima Church in Portsmouth, Iowa.

Larry was united in marriage on February 15, 1958 to Jan Brown at St. Mary Our Lady of Fatima in Portsmouth, Iowa. To this union five sons were born: Jeff, Jim, Greg, Tom, and Bill. After their marriage, Jan and Larry farmed his grandmother Daeges’s farm which has been their family farm ever since.

Larry died Sunday, July 27, 2014, in Omaha, Nebraska having attained the age of seventy-seven years, seven months, and twenty-three days. He is preceded in death by his parents and one son, Greg.

He is survived by his wife Jan Weihs of Portsmouth, Iowa; sons: Jeff Weihs and his wife Leesia of Crescent, Iowa; Jim Weihs of Portsmouth, Iowa; Tom Weihs and his wife Mary Jo of Council Bluffs, Iowa; and Bill Weihs and his wife Teresa of Sartell, Minnesota; eight grandchildren; and two sisters: Jeanette and her husband Joe Leinen of Council Bluffs, Iowa and Judy and her husband Frank Funk of Portsmouth, Iowa.
