Leann Viola (Herbst) Klein was born to Leonard and Constance (Schleisman) Herbst on October 4, 1967 in Harlan, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Harlan, Iowa. While in grade school, she attended New Park Elementary and she eventually graduated from Harlan High School in 1986. After graduation, she attended college at Iowa Western Tech and graduated in 1989 as a LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse).
LeAnn married Jim “Sparky” Klein on November 3, 1990, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Earling, Iowa. To this union, four children were born: Cody, Ashley, Bailey and Sam.
LeAnn was very dedicated to her job as a nurse. She worked at VA Medical Center on the Psychiatric Unit for several years. She loved her job and all of her patients. In 2009, she battled breast cancer and due to nerve damage from the chemo, she had to retire early.
Some of Annie’s favorite hobbies included drawing, glass etching and painting. She was truly a talented individual. LeAnn always found the beauty in nature. She throughly enjoyed fishing and always said, “we’re going to catch “Walter” today.”
In 2020, LeAnn’s cancer returned. She fought long and hard until her body was too tired to continue. LeAnn won her fight with cancer on Tuesday, December 12, 2023. She was preceded in death by her father, Leonard Herbst and brother, Mark Alex.
