Lee Henry Manz was born at home in Shelby County, Iowa on April 23, 1930 to Walter and Elizabeth (Jensen) Manz. Lee attended Shelby Consolidated School for twelve years. While in school he played football, basketball and baseball. He graduated with the class of 1948.
He married Neva Jean Babbitt on January 22, 1950 at the Shelby Methodist Church in Shelby, Iowa. They were blessed with six children: Dennis (died in infancy), Ronda, Larry, Coleen, Karen and Sherry.
Lee and Neva moved to Avoca in 1993 and retired from farming in 1998.
Lee enjoyed his grandchildren, sports, golf, and farming. He really cherished the times taking care of Neva and visiting her at the nursing home every day.
Lee died on Thursday, December 17, 2015 (exactly one year to the day after his beloved wife Neva) at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa having reached the age of eighty five years, seven months and twenty four days. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Elizabeth; his wife Neva; son Dennis; siblings: Laurine Zastrow; Lois Cozad, Jack Manz, and Gene Manz.
He is survived by his children: Larry and Deb Manz of Avoca, Iowa; Ronda and Craig Davis of Shelby, Iowa; Coleen and Chuck Schumacher of Shelby, Iowa; Karen and Delbert Turner of Johnston, Iowa; Sherry and Trevor Pfaff of Raytown, Missouri; sisters-in-law Margaret Manz of Council Bluffs; Hyla Nash of Atlantic, Iowa; Maye Babbitt of Avoca, Iowa; and brother-in-law Dell (Sharon) Babbitt of Estes Park, Colorado; eighteen grandchildren; twenty-eight great grandchildren, nephews, nieces and many friends.
