Lenora M. Conrad
May 2, 1926 — December 31, 2007
Lenora Maxine Conrad, daughter of Andrew and Sadie (Benson) Flug, was born on May 2, 1926, north of Red Line, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Irwin, Iowa. Lenora attended country grade school and was a member of the class of 1944 from Irwin High School.
On August 20, 1949, Lenora was united in marriage to Kenneth E. Conrad in Hiawatha, Kansas. Seven children were born to this union: Sharon, Dale, Charles, Sandra, Dennis, Pamela, and Lisa. After their wedding, Lenora and Kenneth farmed the home place with Kenneth’s brother Alvin. Lenora was a farm wife and helped Kenneth with the farm chores. She also worked at the Shelby County Court House and Title Company for several years.
After Kenneth died in 1994, Lenora moved to Harlan where she became very active in the Myrtue Memorial Auxiliary and was to receive an award for the work she performed as a member. She also volunteered at blood mobiles, was an active member on the fair board, the Commanders Club and the Midstates Masters. Lenora was a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan and supervised over the kitchen. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and taking trips to the casinos.
Lenora died on Monday, December 31, 2007, at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska, having attained the age of eighty-one years, seven months, and twenty-nine days. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Kenneth E., one grandson, Kenneth A. Conrad; and her siblings: Daniel, Mandy, Arthur, Charles, Gaylord, Selma, Agneta, Leonard, Merlin, and Bertha.
She is survived by her children: Sharon and her husband Arlyn Oman of Kirkman, Iowa, Dale and his wife Linda of Walnut, Iowa, Charles and his wife Jonelle of Harlan, Iowa, Sandra and her husband Leo Green of Omaha, Nebraska, Dennis of Harlan, Pamela and her husband Jordan Larsen of Kimballton, Iowa, and Lisa Conrad of Omaha; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends.
A funeral service was held on Friday, January 4, 2008, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harlan, Iowa, with Pastor Stephen Chellew officiating the 10:30 AM service. Casket bearers were Brett Conrad, Jason Conrad, Dave Gline, Kelly Green, Justin Green, and Troy Beck. Interment was held at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa.
