Lewellyn C. Larson was born on the farm near Kiron, Iowa, April 25, 1927, the son of Clifford and Ethel Turin Larson. He was raised on the farm and was graduated from the Kiron High School with the class of 1944. He served his country in the United States Army and returned to the farm at Kiron upon his discharge. On March 18, 1955, Lewellyn was united in marriage with Wanda Holland at Forest City, Iowa. Their union was blessed with four sons, Clayton, Curtis, Conwell and Chad. They made their home on their farm at Kiron where he farmed until retiring. Following retirement they continued to make their home on farm where Lewellyn maintained an active interest in the farming operation. In earlier years, Lewellyn enjoyed playing basketball and softball but most of his adult life was consumed with his love of farming. In his spare time he enjoyed attending the grandchildren?s events and activities and socializing with family and friends. Having been blessed with the gift of music he enjoyed sharing his talents singing in gospel quartets and duets with his wife, Wanda. Lewellyn was a lifetime and active member of First Baptist Church in Kiron where he served as a Deacon and Church Vice Chairman and was a member of the American Legion Post 383, Kiron, Iowa. Lewellyn died late Thursday, April 24, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. At the time of his death he had been blessed with 80 years, 11 months and 29 days. Including his parents, Clifford and Ethel Larson, Lewellyn was preceded in death by one infant brother, LeRoy Larson and one sister, Lucille Larson. Those remaining to cherish his memory include his wife of 53 years, Wanda Larson of Kiron, four sons and their wives, Clayton and Kathy Larson of Odebolt, Iowa, Curtis and Kimberly Larson of Arthur, Iowa, Conwell and Sheryl Larson of Kiron, Iowa and Chad and Wendy Larson of Denver, Colorado, 12 grandchildren, one sister, Elaine Larson of Odebolt, Iowa, one brother, John W. Larson and wife Roby of Kiron, Iowa, nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, April 28, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Kiron, Iowa, with Pastor Lowell Lundstrom and Pastor John Aiken officiating. Music for the service included the congregation singing "When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder" and "I?ll Meet You In The Morning" and special vocal selections offered by Londa Ramsey and Larry and Gloria Lundstrom. Mrs. John W. Larson served as pianist. Honorary pallbearers included Roger Larson, Gordon Larson, Warren Larson, Conwell Lindstrom, Jim Lindstrom, Clayton Lindstrom, Bueal Hedstrom, Gerald Hedstrom, Reese Johnson, Zane Johnson, Herbert J. Turin and Ralph Freese. Pallbearers were David Larson, Peter Larson, Mike Larson, Tom Larson, John Larson, Jr., Kevin Larson, Billy Bergman and Jason Turin. Military Honors were provided the American Legion Post 8, Denison, Iowa. Interment was at the Kiron Cemetery at Kiron. Following the ceremonies at the cemetery all were invited to return to the church and enjoy a time of fellowship and a meal catered by Staley?s.
