Lillian May (Jensen) Kinkennon was born March 20, 1926, at Kansas City, Missouri. Her parents were Carl and Mary (Erickson) Jensen of Lorimor, Iowa. The family lived on a farm there until 1931 when they moved to a farm south of Kirkman. Lillian attended Kirkman Consolidated School through the eighth grade. After her father's death, she and her mother moved to Harlan and she graduated from Harlan High School in 1943. They moved to Omaha that summer where Lillian attended the Commercial Extension and worked as a clerk until 1948.

On April 9, 1945, Lillian married Lester Kinkennon of the U.S. Navy. To this union three children, John, Jim, and Mary, were born. Lillian, her mother, and the children returned to the Kirkman farm in 1951. In 1963, the family moved to Harlan where Lillian was employed at the Department of Human Services. She was active with the hospital auxiliary and the Shelby County Historical Society.

Lillian professed her faith as a child at Bethel Baptist Church where she was a member for many years. More recently she was a member of New Testament Baptist Church and Grace Baptist Church.
