Lillian Marie Paulsen was born on September 9, 1925, to Soren and Petrea (Christensen) Paulsen in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended school in Harlan and graduated with the Class of 1944.
Following high school graduation, she went to Washington, DC and worked as a secretary for two years before contracting jaundice and returning to Harlan.
She went to work as a bookkeeper at the Harlan Telephone Company and was employed there for almost thirty-four years before the company moved their operations to Newton which forced Lillian to retire when she was only fifty-five. She stayed in Harlan to take care of her mother.
Lillian enjoyed playing golf and bowling. She was on a bowling league with her friends for several years and sang in the Immanuel Lutheran Church choir.
Lillian died on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Myrtue Medical Center in Harlan, Iowa, having attained the age of eighty-five years, four months, and nineteen days. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Richard, and her sisters Gerda Christensen and Norma Christensen.
She is survived by her sister Glenda and her husband Frank Hanson of Omaha, Nebraska, sister-in-law Erna Paulsen of Avoca, Iowa; nieces and nephews; other family members and friends.
Pastor Stephen Chellew officiated the 2:00 PM graveside service on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at the Harlan Cemetery in Harlan, Iowa. Serving as casket bearers were Doug Baker, Austin Schechinger, Tina Groth, Dick Jones, and Mike Jones.
